Canon AF35M II Instructions Manual

Sturdy as a rock, heavy as a brick, and fast as lightning — but boy is it loud. And shoot it did. Competitor Konica had beat them to it two years prior when they introduced the C35 AF, equipped with Honeywell Visitronica mechanical autofocus system that used light-sensitive detectors comparing the two images in its rangefinder. As long as your subject is dead manuzl the center of the frame, the autofocus is accurate.

But when I took the camera along for a lazy summer day in the park and took a picture of two of my friends sitting side by side, the focus wasn’t on them, but the bushes behind.

The way to work around this is to use the self-timer, which doubles as pre-focus: Of course, this was a hassle and pre-focusing by pushing the shutter button halfway down would soon be invented — by Nikon. I purchased my Canon AF35M at an online marketplace for 20 euros — a bit too much janual my taste, but it did come with three original screw-on lenses; two wide-angle and one telephoto, plus an adapter for the viewfinder.

Still, this is not the kind of camera you would want to use for some stealth street photography. But it is a groundbreaking camera — the first one with an autofocus system that is still used today in modern manusl cameras. And when you know how mannual work the pre-focus, it produces sharp and contrasty pictures.

Great articlethank you! I have the same camera and trying to figure out how to use it. A quick question, do you have to prefocus before each shot or could you just prefocus to a certain distance and the shoot all the film. For instance you could select a group of people to prefocus and shoot mwnual streets just like that?

Hi verdasthis is an autofocus camera, so you can simply point and shoot. However, that way the camera will mamual on what’s in the centre of the frame. That’s not always what you want. If your subject is not in the centre, you can use the pre-focus manuxl.

How that works is explained in the manual – see the 4th picture from the manual pages above. It would be cnaon to pre-focus before every shot. Yes, I get it: Let’s take a look at one of Canon’s last screw mount rangefinders — the Canon P or otherwise known as Canon Populaire.

The famous draughtsman for Punch Magazine was more known as chief cartoonist and illustrator, but like all artists during the humble beginnings of the photographic medium, he also tried his hand with the camera.
